Picture this: it’s July 11, 2023, my 27th birthday. I’m chilling in Santa Marta, Colombia with my girl Toks and we are scouring TikTok for restaurants to eat at. Now, TikTok recommendations have let me down countless times, but where else does a zillennial go to find restaurants these days? We stumble upon Serena Tropical Bistro and all I can say is – wow.
Serena is everything and more! From the decor to the service to the tasty food, every single thing hit. Here’s an overview of some of the meals we ordered, and my ratings.
Sierra Nevada Mini Arepas (26000 COP/8.65 CAD)
Slow cooked beef in a local coffee demi glace with costeño cheese.
This appetizer may be one of the best things I’ve ever tried. The beef was perfectly cooked, the sauce was flavourful but not overpowering, the arepa was dense but also soft. I’m so impressed! 5/5
Bananera Wings (26000 COP/8.65 CAD)
Fried chicken wings in a sweet and spicy sauce with banana, garlic, jalapeño, and ginger.
You know when you go to a Chinese restaurant and they have perfect wings? These are them. Fried to perfection where it gives that satisfying crunch with each bite. These would also get a perfect score but the sauce was not great. Our waitress told us that the banana sauce wouldn’t be that banana-y but it was. I’m also a certified banana hater so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. 4/5.
Roasted Corvina
I had more fish on this trip than I had in the 6 months this months leading up to this. The corvina was good! Not my favourite fish that I had on the trip but still flavourful and roasted very well.
Overall, I highly recommend Serena Tropical Bistro. You can easily make reservations on their website or walk in to the restaurant at the below address:
