If you’ve been following my journey, you know I’m all about bringing financial knowledge to the masses, and that means we’re going bigger and bolder in 2025. After the incredible success of the Don’t Go Broke Trying event in Lagos, I couldn’t wait to take it to Abuja and make even more waves.

On January 11, we did a DGBT meetup, a small intimate gathering with 30 people where we can talk about finances in a fun an accessible way. I had an incredible guest speaker — Lanre Ashaolu, also known as The EV Guy — and let me tell you, the energy in the room was unmatched. Not only did we dive deep into personal finance, but we also got a chance to explore building wealth from another point of view, by building businesses.

Let me tell you what went down.

Lanre Ashaolu: The EV Guy
Lanre Ashaolu, aka The EV Guy, is a true visionary. He’s been leading the conversation about electric vehicles in Nigeria. Not only is he knowledge in the EV space, he operates 9 businesses across the country so he has a lot of knowledge to share.

What We Discussed at the Event
At Don’t Go Broke Trying Abuja, we had honest conversations about how to make smarter decisions today that will pay off in the long term. Here’s what we dug into:

  1. Building Businesses – Lanre shared powerful insights from his experience owning nine businesses. He highlighted entrepreneurship as a key pathway to wealth creation and emphasized the importance of starting with intention, building sustainably, and finding opportunities in emerging industries.
  2. Investing with a Purpose – We dove into the idea that investments should align with your values and long-term goals. Whether it’s supporting green tech or investing in industries that matter to you, the best moves come from intentional decision-making.
  3. Increasing Our Earning Potential – We explored practical ways to level up financially, from developing high-income skills to making career moves that pay off. Remember, Nigeria isn’t your only market. Lanre reminded us that being proactive about learning and growth is crucial for financial success.

The Energy in the Room
What makes these events so special is the vibe we create. We weren’t just learning from Lanre and me; we were learning from each other. The discussions were engaging, the ideas were flowing, and the energy was pure magic. It was inspiring to see so many people ready to take control of their finances and start thinking beyond the now.

The most powerful thing about Don’t Go Broke Trying Abuja was the shared excitement about what’s possible — and the collective decision to make smart, sustainable, and intentional money moves.
