2024 is my year of building offline, and the year is all about leveling up, not just financially, but in every aspect of my life — and that includes how I show up for YOU! That’s why I’m super excited to tell you about the Don’t Go Broke Trying event I hosted in Lagos, featuring two financial powerhouses: Tosin Olaseinde, a personal finance guru, and of course, my dad — yes, The Finance Dad himself! 😎

When I started my journey, I didn’t have the resources or people to show me the ropes, but I always knew I wanted to change that. I’ve been helping you all make smarter money moves online for a while now, but this in-person event was about taking it up a notch. First in Toronto, now Lagos…who would’ve thought I’d go from zero events to two events in less than six months. We got into the nitty-gritty of what it means to build wealth, handle your finances with intention, and still enjoy the ride along the way.
Let me break it down for you:

Why Lagos?
Lagos is the hustle capital, where dreams are made, and even bigger dreams are born. The city’s energy is unmatched, and I wanted to create an event that really captured that and allowed me to give back to the city that is responsible for me being here (my parents were born and raised there) ! I’ve had the chance to visit Lagos about 10 times now, and every time, I feel so inspired by the ambition and creativity that people here bring to the table. This event was my way of contributing back to that energy — bringing knowledge and support to help you stop stressing about money and start living the life you deserve. As we arrived, we were welcomed with lovely publications about the event from ThisDay and The Guardian, such an honour.

The Powerhouses: Tosin Olaseinde & The Finance Dad
I knew I needed to bring the best to this event. That’s where Tosin Olaseinde comes in. If you’ve been following her journey, you know she’s all about breaking down complex financial topics and making them super accessible for everyone — whether you’re just starting your financial journey or you’re looking to level up. She is the founder of Money Africa and Tosin’s expertise and down-to-earth approach to money management made her the perfect fit to bring practical, actionable tips to the table. She shared insights on how to budget smarter, manage debt, and grow your wealth, all while staying true to your personal goals. If you didn’t know, Tosin’s the queen of making finance feel like it’s for everyone, and that was exactly the vibe we wanted for this event.

And of course, I couldn’t have a financial event without having my dad, The Finance Dad himself, show up and share his wealth of knowledge! 😎 He’s been on this financial journey with me from day one and has taught me so much about investing, saving, and thinking long-term. Having him there was an absolute game-changer. He broke down the ins and outs of investing for the long haul — and trust me, his advice hit home for so many people in the room. From building a portfolio to thinking about retirement, he made complex investing strategies feel so much more achievable.

What Went Down at the Event?

We had some serious real talk about money. We dove deep into:
Breaking the Cycle of Financial Struggle – Many of us grow up with the mindset that money is hard to come by, or we’re stuck in a cycle of never getting ahead. We spent some time digging into how to break that cycle and create generational wealth — because that’s what we’re about here. We’re thinking big, long-term, and we’re getting there together.
Budgeting for Long-Term Goals – It’s easy to get stuck in the daily grind of bills, expenses, and trying to make ends meet. But we broke down the importance of budgeting with intention, setting up a system that helps you plan for the future, without sacrificing your day-to-day joy.
Investing Like a Pro – If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how passionate I am about helping you make your money work for you. We talked about everything from low-risk investments to more aggressive strategies that’ll help you grow your wealth.
The Mindset Shift – Money isn’t just about numbers — it’s about how you think about it. We got into how shifting your mindset around money can change everything. It’s about building habits that serve you long-term and being intentional with every decision you make.

The Energy Was EVERYTHING
One thing I’m proud of is the energy in the room. It wasn’t just about speakers talking at you — it was about YOU engaging, asking questions, and getting real-time feedback on your money situations. We had people from all walks of life: young professionals looking to start investing, entrepreneurs navigating how to manage their business finances, and people looking to break free from financial stress. The connections that were made, the ideas that were shared — it was nothing short of magic.

What’s Next?
If you missed this event, trust me, you’ll want to be at the next one! We’re constantly growing and looking for new ways to bring financial literacy to the masses. Whether it’s through more in-person events, online workshops, or exclusive resources in Don’t Go Broke Collective, we’re here to help you level up your money game in 2025.

Stay tuned for more content, events, and updates coming your way. In the meantime, keep working on your financial journey, and as always, remember: Don’t Go Broke Trying! 💰

xo,
Reni
