Dubai is one of the hottest (literally🥵) destinations right now. Everyone seems to be going, but no one is talking about how expensive it is! I visited the United Arab Emirates in March 2022 and let me just tell you – you need to come with plenty money. This is not by any means a budget friendly destination. Being the finance lover that I am, I made sure to seek out ways that you can save money during your trip. Here are a few tips I learned:
Stay Outside of Downtown
It’s no surprise that downtown is typically one of the most expensive places to stay in a city. Dubai is no different! Keep in mind that the Dubai you see on television is not the only Dubai there is. Instead of staying downtown, I stayed in a part of Dubai called “Deira”. This is one of the oldest and most established areas of Dubai, its origins date back to the mid 1700s. While it isn’t the most popular online, it is still beautiful, safe and just minutes from downtown. Here is a video of where I stayed:
Take Public Transit
I know we like to be bougie on vacation but Dubai’s public transit is pretty bougie tbh. The metro system goes all throughout the city, is well air conditioned, has women-only cars, and is incredibly affordable. I would recommend this over taking a car everywhere, depending on the size of your group.
Use Groupon To Find Deals
Your association with Groupon may be that it is for people who want to save a quick buck, but let me tell you – the deals you can find here are unmatched. If you’re looking to do different activities while in Dubai, Groupon is your best friend for finding good deals.
Download The Careem App
If you don’t want to take public transit, use the taxi system and order via the Careem app. Don’t be like me and order Ubers. Careem is much more affordable, I’m talking 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of Ubers, and equally as safe.
