Let’s be real—Lagos nightlife is unbeatable. But if you’re like me and want to experience more than just late nights out, I’ve got you covered! Here are five things you can do in Lagos that don’t involve the club scene.
1. Take a Cooking Class with Chef Shegz
If you’re a foodie like me (or just want to learn how to make a homemade meal), you’ve got to check out Chef Shegz. He’s a trained chef who comes to you and teaches you how to make both Nigerian and Western dishes. I learned how to make egusi, jollof rice, pepper soup, efo riro, and coconut rice—all in one class! Whether you’re a newbie in the kitchen or just want to level up your skills, this class is a must-do. Watch my lesson here.
2. Make Your Own Candles with Fitila Candles
Okay, confession time—I love candles. So when I found out that Fitila Candles lets you customize your own blend of scents, I jumped at the chance. They use non-toxic soy wax and natural fragrances, and the process is super simple. You answer a few questions, and voila—your candle is delivered right to your door. I went with Tobacco Vanilla and Caramel Pudding, and my house smells amazing now. They’ve also got diffusers, linen sprays, and more to keep your space feeling cozy.
3. Experience Fine Dining with Atije
Now, if you love food (and who doesn’t?), you have to experience the Atije Experience. They host a monthly intimate dining event with a multi-course tasting menu that highlights the best of Nigerian cuisine. I went to the August event, and y’all, the food was phenomenal. I had spring rolls, agege brioche, yam gnocchi with egusi, banga rice with ram, and even some dessert to top it off. It was so good, I’d go back in a heartbeat. If you’re in Lagos, this is something you don’t want to miss. Watch this video to see my recap.
4. Test Your Knowledge at Lagos Trivia Night
I’m a sucker for some healthy competition, and Lagos Trivia Night is perfect for that. If you’re into games, good vibes, and winning prizes, head to Pit Stop Lagos in VI on the last Saturday of the month. You get to hang out, enjoy great food, and see if you’re as smart as you think you are. Spoiler: It’s harder than it looks, but it’s so much fun!
5. Break a Sweat with Reformer Pilates at LO Studio
I’ve been trying to switch up my fitness routine, and LO Studio is where it’s at. I tried reformer Pilates for the first time with Boladapo Abdul, and let me tell you—it’s no joke! But it was one of the best workouts I’ve had in a while. If you’re looking for a challenging but rewarding class, I highly recommend booking a session. They even offer memberships, so you can get the most out of your workouts during the time you’re in Lagos and stay consistent.
Lagos is full of life, and there’s so much to do beyond the nightlife, so go ahead, step out of your comfort zone, and try something new—you won’t regret it! If you’re looking for other things to do in Lagos, make sure to follow The Lagos Weekender. Let me know if you have any questions!

Reni
